He smiled and stood, taking her plate. “Want more water?” he asked, moving to wash their plates.
She was just finishing her bottle as he asked the question. She shook her head. She pursed her lips and lobbed the bottle into the recycling.
“Alright.” he said. He put the rest of the pasta salad in a container and slid it in the fridge, grabbing a water for himself.
She adjusted the way her hat sat on her head, hopping down from the bench. She wrinkled her nose and pulled the hat off. ”Hey, wear this,” she tossed the squid hat to him.
He tossed the hat and gave her look. “Seriously?” he asked. He looked back down at the hat and shrugged. “Alright.” He slipped it on over his head. “How do I look?”
“Awesome,” she laughed, ruffling her own fuzzy hair. She just couldn’t be bothered with the hat right now.

“I will.” he said, smiling. “I’m sure I’ll take you up on that one day.”
She smiled back at him before clearing her plate of the last of the food on it.
“There’s more if you’re still hungry.” he said, smiling.
She shook her head, it was just her habit to eat like a woman starved.

“Well, I’ll be with you if you want someone there when you are ready to open it.” he said. “That’s tough to face on your own.”
She nodded, “Thanks. I don’t know if I’ll ever be ready, but if I am …” She smiled tightly. ”Some things are better left forgotten, you know?”
“I get that.” he said. “You know, if you ever need anything, I’ll be there for you.”
She smiled, how touched she was was evident on her face. ”Thank you. And if there’s ever something … I mean, you’ve got your sister, but if there’s anything, let me know.”

“You don’t have anyone you’re close too?” he asked softly.
“Not that kind of closeness,” she shrugged. ”I’ve just always wondered if I have brothers or sisters.”
“Have you ever thought about trying to find your family?” he asked.
“I have my file, I’m just not ready to open it.” She said. ”I don’t remember twelve years of my life. For all I know, most of it’s better off forgotten.”

She smiled back, before going back to her lunch. ”At least you have your mother and sister, right?”
“Yeah, I know I always will.” he said. “Especially my sister.”
“You two are close, aren’t you?” Did she have siblings? She had always wondered.
“Very close.” he said. “She’s my best friend.”
“Must be nice,” she smiled softly, a hint of sadness to it.
